چکیده

Gold bonding wires have been manufactured through multiple drawing steps with serial and reverse-direction drawing. The texture and microstrucure of the gold bonding wires were characterized with X-ray diffraction and EBSD and compared with the predictions of finite element (FE) imulation. Initial 〈1 0 0〉 fiber decreases during drawing and is replaced by 〈1 1 1〉 fiber. The 〈1 0 0〉 oriented grains are concentrated in the center nd surface regions, whereas the 〈1 1 1〉 oriented grains are located throughout the cross-section of the wire. Regions near the surface often exhibit he complex textures. A simplified forward and backward drawing process was modeled by FE analysis with ABAQUS/StandardTM. The simple wo-step drawing process results in severe variation in shear strain under the surface and displays the opposite behavior in the shear components f the deformation gradient. The texture evolution was predicted using the deformation gradient calculated in the FE simulations together with a odel of polycrystal plasticity. The 〈1 1 1〉 and 〈1 0 0〉 fibers are predicted to develop in the center part of the wire where homogeneous deformation ccurs. The regions near the surface that experience repeated shear strain exhibit complex textures that deviate from the standard 〈1 1 1〉 and 〈1 0 0〉 bers. The {1 1 2}〈1 1 0〉 and {1 1 1}〈1 1 2〉 components are prevalent in the higher shear strain regions. The variations of the anisotropic elastic irectional moduli with position were also calculated. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Influence of an Inclusion on Multi-Pass Copper Shaped-Wire Drawing by 2D Finite Element Analysis

The size and length effects of an inclusion on multi-pass copper shaped-wire drawing were investigated. For this purpose, an experimental investigation on optimal die half-angle was conducted. Based on experimental data of optimal die half-angle, wire and inclusion deformations, drawing and hydrostatic stress of copper shaped-wires that contain an inclusion were calculated by two-dimensional fi...

Static Strain Aging Behavior of Low Carbon Steel Drawn Wire

The static strain aging is a phenomenon that can change the mechanical properties of low carbon steels. Thus, the static strain aging behavior of low carbon steel wires after drawing process is studied. To do so, the wires are austenitized at different temperatures and cooled in different rates. Then the wires are drawn and aged at a specific temperature and time. Before and after aging of each...

Recrystallization and Grain Growth of Cold drawn Gold bonding Wire

Recrystallization and grain growth of gold bonding wire have been investigated with Electron Back Scatter Diffraction (EBSD). The bonding wires were wire-drawn to an equivalent strain greater than 11.4 with final diameter between 25 and 30μm. Annealing treatments were carried out in a salt bath at 300°C, 400°C for 1 min, 10 min, 60 min, and 1 day. The textures of the drawn gold wires contain ma...

Influences of Reduction Ratio on Mechanical Properties and Transformation Temperature of NiTi Drawn Wires

NiTi alloy wires are widely used in many applications for examples, orthodontic arch wires, mini screw implant, sensors, etc. Usually, wire drawing process is chosen to produce arch wires because of its high productivity as well as superior surface quality of the drawn wire surface. In the case of NITI arch wire, the cold work occurred during wire drawing operation also plays important role to ...

Analysis of Fatigue Crack Paths in Cold Drawn Pearlitic Steel

In this paper, a fracto-metallographic analysis was performed on the cracked specimens of cold drawn pearlitic steel subjected to fatigue tests. Fatigue cracks are transcollonial and exhibit a preference for fracturing pearlitic lamellae, with non-uniform crack opening displacement values, micro-discontinuities, branchings, bifurcations and frequent local deflections that create microstructural...
